Best Mulmul Razai for Winter: How to Choose the Right One
Choosing the best mulmul razai for winter is harder than it looks. Every listing says "soft" and "light." Very few say how warm the razai really is. We sell Jaipuri razais, so we answer this question every week. This guide shares what we tell customers before they buy.
Read it once, and you will know which weight, size and fabric suit your home.
What is a mulmul razai?
A mulmul razai is a light quilt made with soft, fine cotton cloth. The cloth is thin and airy, so the razai feels gentle on the skin. It does not weigh you down at night.
Because it is light, it works differently from a thick cotton-filled razai. It gives you gentle warmth, not heavy warmth. That difference decides whether it is the right pick for you.
Our razais weigh up to 3 kg and suit nights of 15°C and above. If you need more warmth, we can customise the razai for you at an extra charge. Not sure how mulmul compares with cotton? See our guide on the difference between mulmul and muslin razai.

Why choose a Jaipuri mulmul razai
Jaipur has long been known for its razais and fine cotton work. A Jaipuri mulmul razai combines that craft with soft, light fabric, so it feels gentle and looks good on the bed.
[Add one or two lines on where and how yours are made, and any print or block work.] If you like printed designs, see our Jaipuri razai collection.
Is a mulmul razai warm enough for winter?
It depends on where you live and how cold your nights get.
In cities like Jaipur, Delhi and Lucknow, October, November and March feel mild. A mulmul razai is usually enough in those months. In peak December and January, many people still use one, but they add a blanket or a woollen layer on top.
Here is the simple rule for our razais:
- 15°C and above at night: our standard razai (up to 3 kg) is enough.
- 10°C to 15°C: ask us for a customised razai (extra charge), or add a light blanket.
- Below 10°C: use the razai as an inner layer, not as your only cover.
If you sleep in an AC room, the best mulmul razai for winter is also a good all-year quilt. It keeps the chill off without making you sweat.
How to choose the best mulmul razai for winter
Four things matter. Check them in this order.
1. Fabric quality
Run your hand over the cloth. Good mulmul feels smooth, not rough or stiff. Look at the stitching too. Loose or uneven stitching is the first place a razai gives up after a few seasons.
2. Weight
Weight tells you how warm and how easy to handle the razai will be. Lift it before you decide, or check the weight on the product page. Our razais weigh up to 3 kg for double and upto 1.5 for single, which keeps them light enough for kids and older people. If you want more warmth, we can customise the weight for an extra charge.
3. Size
Buy for your bed, not for your habit. A single razai fits a single bed with a small overhang. For a double bed, pick a double size, or two people will fight over the cover all night. Measure your bed first. See our size guide.

4. Care and cleaning
Our razais are not washable. They need dry cleaning only. Plan for one dry clean at the end of each season, and your razai will stay soft and keep its shape.

How to care for and store your mulmul razai
A little care makes a razai last for many winters. Ours are not washable, so dry cleaning is the only safe way to clean them.
- Send it to a trusted dry cleaner. Do not wash it at home, by hand or in a machine.
- Dry clean it once at the end of the season, before you store it.
- Air it in light sun or shade for an hour before the season starts. Avoid hours of strong sun, which can fade the colour.
- Fold it loosely and store it in a cotton bag. Plastic traps damp air and can cause a musty smell.
